MAC Employee Spotlight: Sara Finneseth

Sara FinnesethTo describe Sara FInneseth simply as a fitness trainer would seem to be incomplete at best.  Doing so would be to ignore the  “animal loving, multiple sport athlete, wildlife biologist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, ex-Husky” parts that make up Sara as a person.  However, when it comes to fitness training, she is the best “animal loving, multiple sport athlete, wildlife biologist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, ex-Husky” to have on your team.

Sara’s passion for fitness and training began as a student at the University of Washington. “I’m very competitive…I grew up playing sports and wanted to improve my sports performance”, said Sara when asked what inspired her healthy lifestyle. With a desire to be competitive and help others become fit she began fitness training as a water aerobics instructor at UW.  Fast forward 15 years and multiple certifications in a wide array of fitness disciplines, and Sara has teamed up with the Magnuson Athletic Club. She brings an energetic style and vast experience to MAC members looking for fitness help.

At the MAC, Sara can be found leading classes in yoga, cycling, and strength training classes like Chizzled. Sara is also leading the latest  dynamic strength and conditioning class called TRX.  Although any class you take with Sara at the helm will be a great experience, she especially recommends joining one of her small group classes:  “My favorite thing about training at the MAC is the small group feel.  I love getting to know people in an intimate setting”.

Fitness is not just a job, but a way a life for Sara.  So, it is not surprising that when asked about her time away from training she spoke of her pets getting a workout as she enjoys playing frisbee with her dogs Rosie and Dakota.  Her hobbies are simple, “fitness and animals” she says.  Sara also admitted, “I’m kind of a tree-hugger.”  Given her varied background, that shouldn’t surprise anyone.  In fact, if anyone can figure out the fitness benefits of hugging trees, it is probably Sara Finneseth.
